Pamela Means presents Black, Brown and Beige, named after a Duke Ellington composition, is a family-friendly public event celebrating the artistry and cultural contributions of Black, Brown and Beige people. Demonstrating that throughout history, Black, Brown and Beige artists have used their voices, their lives, their art, to call out injustice, call in community, inspire compassion, assuage pain, instill joy, spread love, and prove possibilities of a brighter, better, and loving world. Means will also share her trajectory as an artist, making music for peace and unity, committed to authentic self-expression. Performing a mix of originals and cover songs, we will explore the origin stories and lineages of many recognizable "sing-along" tunes sung by Harriet Tubman, Leadbelly, Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Tracy Chapman, Prince, etc.!
First Fridays: Imagine Your New Library
You’ve got questions. We’ve got answers. It’s time for Montague voters to learn more about what a new library would mean for our community. Join us at 38 Avenue A to imagine what it could be like to have a new main library on that exact space! Potential new building spaces will be outlined using chalk paint, so you can stand in the new children's room, the garden terrace, the local history room, the reading room and more! Library staff and trustees will be on hand to answer questions.
Summer Cook Book Club: Salvisoul
Celebrate the flavors of the season with our Summer Cookbook Club. We'll meet the first Wednesday of the month in May, June, July, and August to share dishes, swap notes, and enjoy a meal together. Each month features a different cookbook. Choose a recipe, prepare it at home, and bring it in to share with the group. Seasonal and locally inspired ingredients are encouraged. In June, we’ll explore The SalviSoul Cookbook: Salvadoran Recipes and the Women Who Preserve Them by Karla Tatiana Vasquez.
