Happy October, Montague!
The Montague Public Libraries are here to support your spooky season! The Carnegie Library will host our first ever costume swap for children and teens on Saturday, October 18th. Stop in to pick up a new or gently used costume for free or make your own costume pieces with materials from Swanson’s Fabrics. We’ll be showing Jim Henson’s cult masterpiece, Labyrinth, starring Jennifer Connelly and David Bowie at our monthly Millers Movie Night on October 28th, and we’ll kick off Montague Center’s Halloween festivities with a concert performed by the Grumpytime Club Band.
This month’s calendar also features a reiki and sound healing workshop; two educational forums with the senior center, on AI and cybersecurity respectively; and a local author talk by none other than Montague Center’s very own Kate Martineau, who in addition to being a fabulous library staff member is also an art historian and published author. Stop by the Montague Center Branch Library on October 6th to hear her discuss her book, Ray Johnson: Selective Inheritance about collage and performance artist, Ray Johnson.
Finally, those who are curious about the Carnegie Library’s fascinating history and its current challenges, or who wish to learn more about the main library building project, are encouraged to join me for a tour of the building on October 7th at 10:00AM or October 24th at 2:00PM.
Speaking of the building project, the Library Building Steering Committee and the Library trustees continue to work with Schwartz/Silver to finalize the new building’s floor plan and ensure that we select building systems that are sustainable, affordable, and simple to operate. We hope to approve the final design, and share it with the public, by mid-November. Stay tuned!
Happy reading!
