A Moment of Gratitude

A Moment of Gratitude Teaser image

Yesterday thousands of Montague voters went to the polls to determine the future of the Main Library Building Project. 2,846 residents cast their ballots, which is more than four times the number of people who voted in last month’s annual election. The project passed by 345 votes.

I want to express my gratitude for everyone who went to the polls yesterday. For the nearly 100 ballot committee volunteers who worked tirelessly and with eternal optimism to share information about the project with neighbors and strangers. For the Library Trustees and Library Building Steering Committee members who crafted a successful grant application and a thoughtful main library design that pays homage to the needs of the community and the aesthetics of Avenue A. For the Friends of the Libraries who have supported this project enthusiastically from the start. And for Library staff, who have taken the challenges of this building in stride and still provide excellent customer service to everyone who walks through the Carnegie’s doors.

Over the next three years, library staff, town admin, and committee members will work to finalize the building design, fundraise, apply for grants, and do everything we can to dampen the final costs of the project for the town. At the end of it, we’ll have a beautiful library that will serve everyone. I simply cannot wait to see you all there.

Thank you to everyone who believes in this project. It means more than you could know.

Caitlin, Library Director
