Happy May, Montague,

I’m excited to share that Montague’s town meeting members voted 81 to 3 to move the Main Library Project forward and hold a town-wide vote on June 24th. At that special election, a simple majority of “yes” votes would allow the project to proceed. Having spent more than three years working with the Library Trustees and the Library Building Steering committee to move this project from a dream to a plan, to a real design, it’s both thrilling and daunting to have made it to this last hurdle. I encourage you all to save the date and make sure that your voice is heard.

As a gardener, May is one of my favorite months—It’s time to get seeds in the ground! If you haven’t already, I recommend stopping by the Carnegie Library or Millers Falls Branch Library for seeds from our seed libraries. Or join us at the Brick House on May 13, between 5:30PM and 8:00PM, for a collaborative seed swap and seed starting workshop.

To mark the occasion of the 350th anniversary of the massacre at Peskeompskut, historian David Brule will lead a battle history walking tour on May 9th. This subject will also be explored by a panel discussion live streamed at the Montague Center Branch, in partnership with Historic Boston on May 6th.

On May 27th, from the front steps of the Montague Center Branch Library, Pamela Means will present Black, Brown and Beige, a performance celebrating and demonstrating that throughout history, Black, Brown and Beige artists have used their voices, their lives, their art, to call out injustice, call in community, inspire compassion, assuage pain, instill joy, spread love, and prove possibilities of a brighter, better, and loving world. This program is being sponsored by the Mass Cultural Council.

This month will also feature a Pokémon party, a new cookbook club, new Local History Office Hours, a board game night, and two main library project information sessions!

Happy reading,

Caitlin
