Happy September, Montague!

The nights are getting cooler, the back-to-school season is upon us, and this month’s library programs are focused on all things literary.

We’re featuring not one but TWO local author readings at the Montague Center Branch Library. Famed poet Paul Mariani will present his newest collection, Sing Me a Song, She Said, on Wednesday, September 9th at 5:30PM and author Lee Wicks will discuss her most recent memoir, A Five Dog Marriage, on Wednesday, September 30th at 5:30PM. For our youngest patrons, the Carnegie Library will host a 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Kick-Off Party on 9/19 from 10:00AM to 12:00PM. It’s never too early to develop a love for books! 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program promotes reading to newborns, infants, and toddlers and encourages closeness between parents and their child through reading together. Kick-Off attendees will receive a free book to keep. And, of course, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that MPL also has three book clubs that will meet this month. Check the calendar for details.

Folks looking to celebrate community with their families, meet their neighbors, and learn more about local resources are encouraged to attend the libraries’ third annual Good Neighbor Day on Saturday, 9/26 at Unity Park from 2:00PM to 5:00PM. An afternoon of free fun activities, tabling by local community organizations, snacks, live music by the Jazz Queens, Western Mass Face Painting, and so much more await!

On the new library front, the architects, owners project managers, and Library Building Steering Committee members are working hard to hash out design details and make decisions that will allow the new building to be as user-friendly, efficient, and economical as possible. We have tentatively scheduled a public presentation for Thursday, December 10, so stay tuned for more details.
